Let's get CRITICAL!
Critical Rate
Wondering why you're not doing enough criticals? Some choices around stats/skills/equipment may make a huge difference.
Each character has a hidden stat called Critical Rate, which is the probability of each attack turning into a critical attack.
Obviously, you want to get this as close to 100 (%) as possible. There are 3 ways to do this:
Finally, there are Skills that will improve your Critical Rate by a set %
So how does it all work together? Based on some testing with my AB (with maxed Soul Shooter Expert), the formula appears to be:
Critical Rate (%) = (1 + Skills / 100 ) * (Stat + Equipment)
So for an AB with Soul Shooter Expert and a decent set of 150 gear, you're looking at having around 60 Luck to be at 100% crit.
Critical Attack Rate
Some of your equipment may say Critical Attack Rate. Isn't this the same, you may ask. NO!! NO!! NO!!
This stat affects how powerful your critical damage is.
The formula for critical damage is quite simple:
Critical_damage = 2 * Normal_damage * (1 + Critical_Attack_Rate / 100)
If your Critical Rate is high, then this stat is often more important than your base Attack.
Edit: Thanks to @iHyunDHP for getting the stat ratios

- Some of your Equipment, most commonly hats, will improve your Critical Rate. Scroll your hats to get better Critical Rates.
- Each class also has a specific Stat that will increase the Critical Rate.
- AB: 1 * LUK
- DS: 5/7 * LUK
- DB: 5/8 * INT
- KS: TBC

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
Pretty sure critical rate on DS is dex for DS actually. Could be wrong, but I hit my fair share of crits and I'm high dex DS (Not full, I have stated strength). I mean I have 11 on my hat, and like 11 from a skill, but I tell you I hit crits more than 22%.
Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
Well, you havent included your luck in that calculation.
Skill = 11
Equip = 11
Luck = 28
Your crit rate should be 43%

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
With your current skill and hat, you would only need about 80 luck to be perma crit.

I was actually trying to figure this out as well, kudos for the work and the time you just saved me.

I was reading through 2chan and the DB players were saying that.
In fact, their strategy is to be an Alchemy (consumables) crafter on their DB.
Apparently you can craft +50 INT potions. So they just use that instead of putting points into INT.

Hmm... I'm leveling a DB right now. Might give this a try.

I have at least one belt with bonus INT, so maybe keep an eye out on those.
Also, if you're planning on getting Thorns (6th job skill), you'll probably need less natural Crit Rate.
Edit: guild dungeons apparently can yield int pots.

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
This is really nice! Would something similar like this, but then based on avoidability also be true.
So that you could raise a characters avoid to such a high level they'd nearly never get hit?
This might be a huge point of interest for AB's, as well as dealing with MK and LHC as well

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
Well fuck, I guess it's time to reallocate my stats again.
Would you recommend just going full Dex with 60 Luk, or a combination of Str, Dex, and Luk? Everything at LHC 1hits me anyway, so I'm gravitating towards an all Dex build.

I only see STR helping if you plan on going far in dojo without high Vip buffs. I'm all DEX, with some LUK. Just put LUK in 1 by 1 until you never miss crit's, you don't necessarily need 60, you may need more or less (depending on equips).

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
Are you sure your equation for Critical Attack Rate is correct?
You are saying that if you have 0 critical attack rate:
Critical_damage = 2 * Normal_damage * (1 + (0) / 100) = 2/100 * Normal_Damage
Which is essentially saying that if you had 0 critical attack rate your critical damage would be near the same damage as normal damage.
You are saying that if you have 0 critical attack rate:
Critical_damage = 2 * Normal_damage * (1 + (0) / 100) = 2/100 * Normal_Damage
Which is essentially saying that if you had 0 critical attack rate your critical damage would be near the same damage as normal damage.

Yup, @blackturtle is right.
However, for your reference:
- I have a lvl 150 hat (+1) that gives 18
- The 150 set bonus gives another 11
Assuming the above, you only need 60 total luk to be 100% crit.
Also, my lvl 150 necklace has 18 luk. I'm guessing some other equipment could also have luk on them (e.g. belts).
If you're using your cubes, then you may also get additional 'Critical Rate' or LUK, which means in theory you may not need any stat points in LUK at all...

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
minadein, your equation states:
Critical_damage = 2 * Normal_damage * (1 + Critical_Attack_Rate / 100)
The "(1 + Critical_Attack_Rate / 100)" portion will shrink your crit damage if it's anything less than 100/100. You see what I'm saying?
If you wanted 2*Normal_Damage, the "(1 + Critical_Attack_Rate / 100)" portion would have to be 100/100, meaning Critical_Attack_Rate would have to equal 99.
Is that correct?

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
@toff You are interpreting the equation as "(1+C_A_R)/100" it is really "1 + (C_A_R/100)"
This is the same as "100/100 + C_A_R/100"
This is the same as "100/100 + C_A_R/100"

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
@Scooby I think it's the training one. I remember getting a few blessing / pots from that.
I haven't come across the INT pot yet, but I assume they drop in bundles.

OH. yes, yes. that was the confusion. thanks for clearing it up!
Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
I have no skills with + crit (as DB level 63)
So therefore 1 + skills/100 would be a numeral "x"
Skills / 100
0 / 100 = 0
1 + 0 = 1 (solution to first section of the formula, declare X = 1
So X • stats (150), declare my 150 luck as Y.
X • y = Z
1 • 150 = 150 (no gear with luck)
z = 150.
z = % therefore
My crititical rate should be 150% of the time.
Therefore this formulation is incorrect.
Sorry if this was hard to follow.

Re: Let's get CRITICAL!
I think I stated somewhere that the DB stat for critical rate could be INT.
